A well-established Food Safety Testing organization is pursuing opportunities in the Organics sector and is adding a new role to their team: Category / Marketing Specialist – Organics!  This is an exciting and critical role for their go-to market strategy and is focused on demand generation and the acquisition of key customers across the organic foods market. The skill set requires an individual that is capable of working as part of a highly effective team yet motivated by the personal drive to succeed in a business environment. This highly skilled Category / Marketing Specialist is responsible for the development and growth of profitable new business opportunities in the organic foods industry for the company and for maintaining key customer or industry relationships. The role utilizes a needs-based marketing approach and strives to understand the organic customers prior to developing a campaign or making a proposal with sales. The position requires a high degree of business acumen in the organic food industry and will work with all departments to support profitable sales growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General

  • Develop a plan and work with Sales to grow a viable presence in the organic market with their products and services.
  • Develop products and solutions expertise and understand the Company’s business goals in the organic industry.

Commercial Goals (Revenue and Market Share)

  • Achieve set revenue targets, market share and profitability for the organic food industry. Provide progress reports to management.
  • Compile a comprehensive time bound business plan with validated intelligence on market activities and competitive landscape, including budget for revenue targets for the organic market.
  • Identify and create a strategic road map for existing and potential organic foods clients in the US for products aligned with the Company’s business scope.

Marketing

  • Position products, services and solutions for success in the organic segment as defined by revenue and market share goals.
  • Develop content for customer-facing materials in the organic segment such as brochures, advertising, trade show graphics, web-site, etc.…
  • Maintain updated information on competitive landscape and organic market trends and activities to management.
  • Be the subject matter expert for the organic segment / application and deliver presentations and solutions to industry leaders at conferences, trade shows, and committees on food safety.
  • Make recommendations on products, services, pricing, features, etc. designed to address the organic food industry.

Commercial Development

  • Use the customer relationship management (CRM) system for reporting and tracking of marketing and sales effectiveness.
  • Play a lead role in new business opportunities and hold responsibility for the effective on-boarding of new customers along with deepening engagement in existing customers, including training in the organic segment.
  • Present progress updates at the monthly business meeting.
  • Support international sales and marketing in this segment.
  • Support the technical team and customers to provide high standard of customer service and compliance with contractual obligations.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business or a technical field such as food science, microbiology, chemistry or agriculture.   Experience in the organic food industry required. Business to business sales experience, solid understanding of marketing principals preferred.

Communication Skills: Must be proficient in English.  Superior communication skills (written and verbal). Good listening skills, able to contribute to group discussions.  Ability to craft and deliver clear, concise messages across diverse audiences inside and outside of the organization.
