West Coast Commodities Specialist – California

The Commodities Specialist serves as the primary commercial support for all frozen fruit sourcing. The emphasis will be on data and process analytics in Microsoft Dynamics AX, Qlikview, Excel and other applications.  Additionally, this role requires information collection through discussion and validation with key stakeholders, subject matter experts, and team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

∞     Support the frozen fruit sourcing team

  • Weekly meeting with Director of Sourcing & Trading to go over forecast, positions, and potential issues.
  • Responsible for the purchasing analytics and create bi-weekly/monthly reports to monitor long/short positions per item per location, ingredient activity.
  • Intermediate level Excel skills are required, including ability to create Excel graphs and spreadsheets/pivot tables.
  • Preparing cost sheets.
  • Responsible for accuracy and timeliness of contract book.
  • Setting up vendors in ERP system.
  • Analyze data from Microsoft Dynamics AX, MS Excel, and other applications, as required
  • Provide procurement leadership with support in developing and executing strategic sourcing initiatives, tender processes, supplier evaluations, etc.
  • Support master data management in relevant process areas, including evaluations of data quality and coordinating/executing updates required to manage the business and provide accurate analysis
  • Create situation assessments substantiated by solid data analysis and identify improvement opportunities in areas including, but not limited to Procurement of IQF Frozen Fruits.

∞     Commercial

  • Entry of purchase agreements / releases in ERP system.
  • Support key purchasing reporting initiatives
  • Supply planning, inventory management and processing of corresponding releases.
  • Responsible for general coordination of contracts with suppliers. (ship schedules, packaging, coa, samples, etc)
  • Responsible for organizing import logistics, customs, domestic freight.
  • Responsible for cross functional coordination with the Global Fruit Sourcing Team.
  • Facilitating external trading activities / opportunities of internal production.
  • Experience within the food industry is strongly preferred.

∞     Market

  • Pro-actively gather and share market intelligence and crop updates.
  • Assist in collecting offers from different suppliers and/or origins.
  • Weekly presence and contribution to the fruits calls.

∞     Quality

  • Assure vendor compliance with FSSC-18 Fruit Sourcing Requirements.
  • Assure pro-active follow up on any complaints / claims received. (incl. credit / debit note / payment holds)
  • Managing blocked, obsolete, excess and damaged inventory
  • Partner with business and process leaders to support process development and documentation to ensure clarity and compliance in execution
  • Be knowledgeable in products so as to be able to answer most customer inquiries
    • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, supply chain, or related field is preferred.

 Experience:

Three to five (3-5) years of experience in operational and / or financial analytics is required.

Experience using Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar ERP system for data collection and reporting is highly preferred.

Prior experience or educational background in procurement and / or logistics desirable.

Knowledge and Skills:

Candidate must have strong analytical skills and data analysis skills, including exceptional MS Excel capability.  High attention to detail and strong follow-up skills are necessary.  Ability to create clear and compelling communications using MS Word and PowerPoint software is needed proficient with MS Excel software, including ability to create Excel graphs and spreadsheets/pivot tables. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross functionally with various internal departments, stakeholders and supplier partners are key requirements.

 Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Approximately; 95% of work is performed in office environment, 5% off-site including plants, off-site and trainings.
