Director of Agronomy

Strong, growing produce company seeking Director of Agronomy who will directly supervise regional senior agronomists and a research and development manager.
Facilitate with sites the development and execution of pest management programs to ensure adequate disease and insect control
Provide oversight for soil moisture management strategies and work with sites to ensure irrigation protocols are executed
Develop soil sampling protocols, fertility recommendations, and in-season fertility amendments and coordinate with on-site agronomists for execution
Assist farm managers and agronomists in developing crop and variety plans to ensure optimal fresh and storage deliveries
Ensure agronomy programs promote optimal growth and quality such as field preparations for planting, seed handling and cutting, planter spacing accuracy, irrigation system application and uniformity and chemical application
Initiate and monitor new variety evaluation including establishing variety specific agronomy at the sites
With the Manager of R&D, coordinate and execute research priorities and areas of focus for the business such as plant density management, disease and pest management, water use and fertilizer efficiency, etc.
Provide leadership and agronomic expertise for all locations
Directly supervise regional agronomists and the Manager of R&D
Develop annual budgets for crop inputs by location
Provide customers with agronomic updates and coordinate customer trials
Conduct annual agronomy reviews with the management team and agronomists
Masters of Science degree in Agronomy, Crop Sciences or related agricultural field
At least 5 years progressive experience working ideally with potato crops
Ability to travel to sites regularly throughout the year
Demonstrated strong work-ethic, outstanding leadership and exceptional interpersonal skills
Self-directed individual who leads projects to identify and implement solutions with team input
Adaptability to changing situations and ability to perform multiple tasks with multiple priorities
Proficient in the use of Windows based computer programs (Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and a general aptitude with software systems such as iCropTrak, Land.db, and Fusionware.
Superior organizational and project management skills; experience leading and managing people
Location of this position is negotiable and will reside at one of our main operation or corporate locations.
