Northeast Director of Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance – North East

A strong and growing food manufacturer of refrigerated foods is seeking a Director of Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine, implement and oversee direction for food safety, quality and food defense policies while staying abreast of regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate/Plan Regulatory visits (USDA, FDA, FDA-FSMA, State & City)
  • Coordinate/Plan 3rd Party and Certification audits (SQF, GIG, Organic, Military)
  • Regulatory Policy and Program reviews (HACCP, SSOP, GMP)
  • Regularly conduct internal audits to ensure all systems are up to date and correct against agreed standards
  • Audit the documented programs to ensure that standards are being met
  • Oversee raw materials and specification retrievals from all incoming ingredients and food contact materials and verify they are sourced from suitable suppliers and specifications are completed
  • Audit suppliers of raw materials.
  • Oversee and audit finished product specifications to ensure they are accurate and the specification is being met
  • Oversee customer complaint procedure, reporting and action plans ensuring all items are addressed in a timely controlled fashion by all relevant departments including product recall practice and procedures
  • Manage QA, Food Safety and Lab employees
  • Manage laboratory and all associated items (allergen testing, environmental sampling program, pre op testing, microbiological testing program for shelf life and confirmation studies) and budgets
  • Develop individual team members & their careers
  • Conduct annual reviews and PDPs for all direct team members
  • Create a culture of accountability & performance
  • Drive a focus on quality and continuous improvement

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 8-10 years+ experience in the fresh food manufacturing and Technical Arena
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Food Science/Microbiology or equivalent
  • Drive, Energy, Integrity
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • High Level of computer literacy – Excel, Word & internet
  • Self-starter able to conceptualize and drive initiatives forward
  • Positive attitude and motivated by contributing to the overall success of the team
  • Able to develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Obsessive attention to detail, well organized and able to juggle many projects at once
  • Comfortable moving at a fast pace and in ambiguous environments
  • Passionate about food
  • Willing to address difficult situations head on with patience and respect

Compensation:

Competitive base salary plus bonus and benefits depending on experience.
