Director of Logistics and Transportation – NY / NJ Area

This position partners with executive management, sales and production team members, as well as, customers; to lead, develop and implement logistic solutions that exceed quality, cost and customer satisfaction goals. Directs and overseas key logistics functions, including imports of perishables, shipping of perishable finished goods, management of in-transit inventory and product delivery.

Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a proactive logistics and transportation strategy that optimizes the company and customers’ requirements.
Creative use of technology, process improvements, as well as developing and leveraging internal teams and departments that currently function autonomously.
Directs and centralizes the activities of the transportation departments in coordinating inbound and outbound products, in-transit inventory and transportation procurement decisions .
Insures that the transportation department operates within budget and achieves agreed upon goals while maintaining customer satisfaction and maximizing Company cash flow. Analyze shipping routes and implement proactive solutions that increase revenue per stem, improve quality and reduce costs.
Responsible for all contract negotiations as they relate to the distribution and logistics needs of the company.
Ability to analyze P&L statements, create comprehensive profitability analysis and make adjustments in the business model to increase profitability and improve cash flow.
Proactively manage regulatory, safety and, environmental compliance with State and Federal laws.
Develop contingency protocols for possible disruption of service.
Ability to work close with Sales team, customers, inbound product managers, direct reports, location managers and production warehouse managers.
Ability to travel to warehouse facilities and other needed visits.
10 plus years’ of increasingly responsible experience in logistics, transportation and supply chain management of produce and perishables in top-level management capacities within a small to mid-size company
Experience in managing and forecasting logistical demands in a highly cyclical and seasonal perishable shipping environment within the PACA guidelines.
Proven track record of managing cross functional teams and implementing innovative solutions in a complex environment that effectively leveraged technology, improved quality, reduced costs and improved customer stratification.
Carrier management experience with the ability to oversee and refine TL and LTL solutions in a timely and efficient manner to meet arrival and departure appointments.
Working knowledge and ability to develop load maximization programs working within and outside our current industry.
A high level of interpersonal skills to communicate policies, procedures, and objectives effectively throughout the Company to represent the Company positively to all internal and external contacts. Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate with others both in person and on the telephone.
A high level of analytical skill to asses and evaluate the operation of subordinate areas of responsibility, participate in establishing Company-wide financial goals, analyze new products, draft and review operational reports to the CEO and management team.
Strong working knowledge of computer based word processing and spreadsheet application programs as well as customer logistics/purchasing systems.
Strong mathematical skills including ability to analyze financial statements calculate formulas and analyze data.
Ability to travel to multi-sight locations by air travel and vehicle.
