Director of Quality Assurance – California

A well-established food manufacturer is searching for a Director of Quality Assurance to join their team. The Director of Quality Assurance will be responsible for the quality and food safety of products by developing and implementing quality and food safety strategies and programs in compliance with regulatory agencies, customers’ requirements. These products include products made under our client’s brands. Assuring quality of products will be achieved through working with other functions and team members of the R&D and Operations. The Quality Assurance Director will provide direction and training to plant associates to produce high quality and safe food products. The Director will work with other QA Directors to achieve compliance with Quality and Food Safety Standards for our client.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain Quality Assurance/Food Safety Manuals: Including company policies, programs, and standard operating procedure related to food safety
Assure compliance with FSMA regulations, specifically Supplier Verification Program to assure food safety of the incoming ingredients
Assist in the development of departmental training materials. Coordinate training with other departments. Train employees and other trainers.
Review and communicate information from outside parties (3rd party labs, regulatory agencies, 3rd party auditors) for corrective actions using QES
Implement and keep updated traceability and batch control program
Develop and implement Supplier Verification Program for all suppliers and co-packers
Work with Consumer Feedback Management to investigate complaints by consumers, customers or regulatory agencies.
Maintain master calendar for all date sensitive regulatory/environmental documents and communicate with responsible staff to ensure timely renewal
Develop and implement plans to support continuous improvement in product quality and food safety
Maintain a good working relations with plant managers producing all brands
Maintain contacts with Corporate quality assurance and other Quality Managers
Skills and Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in Quality Assurance management of food products
Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry or related fields
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Able to travel 1-2 weeks/month
Experience with Canadian food regulations a plus
