EHS Manager – California

A well-established grower/shipper/packer is searching for a EHS Manager to join their team. The EHS Manager will manage safety and environmental health standards and practices for all Texas division operations and farm business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee, evaluate, and continuously improve the plant’s safety program to achieve and maintain our zero-harm goal.
Research and implement new safety activities to keep the safety program fresh.
Walk the production floor multiple times daily over multiple shifts weekly to observe work practices and assist supervisors, leads, and operators in maintaining a safe work environment in all departments over all shifts.
Randomly observe department audits and gemba walks to assure they are conducted with rigor.
Organize and conducted weekly toolbox talks and monthly safety training.
Lead the Plant Employee Safety Team.
Oversee and conduct new employee orientations, certifications, industrial hygiene testing, classroom training, and practical hands-on floor training.
Review, evaluate, and update plant incident reports to assure the proper root cause is identified and corrective actions are implemented on a timely basis.
Timely maintenance of all government, corporate, and plant training, testing, records, documents, and logs to assure the plant remains in compliance.
Oversee and conduct outside contractor training and emergency action plan training.
Monitor worker’s compensation claims and oversee the plant’s regulated/hazardous materials management program.
Knowledge of basic principles of industrial hygiene, chemical hazards and reactions, electricity, industrial maintenance processes and fire technology.
Regularly provide updates to senior management regarding the plant safety program and communicate any safety issues or concerns.
Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum requirement of a college degree (Occupational Safety, OSHA Certifications and Industrial Safety preferred).
2-3 years’ experience successfully managing teams production support capacity.
Knowledgeable in the application of OSHA regulations.
Knowledgeable of the workers compensation process.
Experience in administering personnel policies and procedures.
Must project a positive and professional image.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Be able to make decisions within scope of job.
Be readily receptive of additional training for the broadening of skills.
Must have working knowledge of the packinghouse and farming positions.
