East Coast Farm Operations Manager – New Jersey

Role

The position will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer. Team leaders for growing and harvesting will report directly to the Farm Operations Manager who will maintain close working relationships with the Food Safety & Quality Assurance, Engineering and R&D teams.

  • The position requires an individual who is highly motivated with exceptional hands-on leadership skills and the desire to be part of a company that is changing the face of agriculture throughout the world.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Growing Operations
    • Oversee all aspects of crop production, health and yield
    • Develop daily schedules for seeding, harvesting and packaging
    • Work closely with Marketing to develop longer-term seeding and growing schedules based upon sales projections, harvest and yield forecasts
    • Lead IPM activities
    • Manage key inventory metrics and staffing plans for growing operations
    • Ensure ongoing & preventative maintenance of all growing equipment
    • Proactively trouble shoot and problem solve
  • Harvesting and Packaging Operations
    • Ensure ongoing and preventative maintenance of all harvesting and packaging equipment
    • Suggest and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, yield and/or quality
    • Enforce strict cleaning and sanitation protocols throughout facility
    • Implement corrective actions as per CAPA programs
    • Implement all food safety and traceability plans and requirements
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of farm personnel
    • Oversee daily operations – manage growing, harvesting and packaging team leaders and staff
    • Provide training to team leaders and staff as needed
    • Conduct record keeping and data analysis activities, as required
    • Provide inventory management and control for seed, nutrients, packaging materials and supplies
    • Manage and evaluate budgets and expenses on a regular basis

Qualifications:

  • 5 – 10 years of experience leading a Production Greenhouse, Controlled Environment, and/or Vertical Farming Operations
  • BS in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field of study; Masters would be considered as a plus
  • Strong understanding/experience in supply chain management
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong mentoring, coaching experience, especially to a team with varied levels of expertise
  • Proven track record of success leading organizational development within a growing organization
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to collaborate across all company teams to effectively achieve required outcomes
  • Certified LEAN practitioner and Six Sigma certification
