West Coast Food Safety Manager – California

Well-established produce distributor and exporter in Los Angeles has a great opportunity for a food safety expert to oversee the food safety and quality assurance programs for the organization.

This role will be working with a wide array of fresh produce commodities and ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.  Must have a strong knowledge of HACCP and FSMA; detail oriented, process-driven and honest; able to communicate, train, and instruct staff for warehouse safety and protocol.

Responsibilities and Functions Include:

  • Committed to the Company’s values.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement of all food safety programs.
  • Update and complete vendor approval program.
  • Pass annual audit, conduct mock audits, work with management on any issues.
  • Complete training for team members.
  • Ensure quality evaluations of inbound and outbound product, including documentation and reporting, for a wide array of fresh produce commodities.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and regulations, including HACCP and FSMA.
  • Update documents, manuals, programs, policies, and ensure documents are consistently up to date.
  • Provide leadership and education relating to local, state and federal guidelines on produce safety. Stay current with requirements, regulations, trends.
  • Maintain database for supplier’s compliance documentation. GMP, GAP, Social Responsibility, among others.
  • Immediately communicates with management regarding processes or product not meeting standard requirements and work together to resolve problems.
  • Work with vendors and company personnel to resolve quality and food safety issues.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Skills and Qualifications Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food or agricultural sciences or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of Food Safety experience.
  • Experience with audits at the distribution and/or grower level.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP, FSMA.
  • Able to work unsupervised and manage independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems independently and with sound judgement.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness and dependability.
  • High degree of organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple priorities.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills required.
