Food Safety Manager – Maryland

A well-established produce processor is searching for a Food Safety Manager to join their team. The Food Safety Manager will be directly assists the Director of Food Safety by supervising the Food Safety and Sanitation Department’s employees while also ensuring that the food safety system at the plant is properly written, documented, and implemented – thus ensuring regulatory compliance (HACCP, FDA, SQF) and the production of safe, quality, and wholesome produce.
The Food Safety Manager manages all Food Safety Specialists, FS Technicians, Sanitation Crew Leads, and Sanitation Technicians; to include hiring, training, counseling, and recommending discharge when necessary.
The Food Safety Manager ensures that all Food Safety programs are functioning as designed, being followed by all appropriate personnel, and also being correctly documented. Further, that all programs in place are valid and following all legal as well as audit format requirements.
The Food Safety Manager must be able to quickly, yet thoroughly, investigate a product/process failure to determine the root cause as well as what corrective actions are needed.
The Food Safety Manager must be thoroughly versed in 3rdparty Food Safety Audits as well as be prepared to be the secondary contact in the event that the Food Safety Director is unavailable.
Must quickly gain an understanding of all of our safety policies and procedures and be able to express those policies to others as needed.
The Food Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the cleanliness of the warehouse is maintained.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Sciences, or other applicable discipline.
A minimum of five years of related experience. At least three years of supervisory experience.
Must demonstrate proficient PC skills.
Must demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Experience working with relational databases, statistical programs, and other tools to compile and interpret quantitative data.
