Works with the ICM supervisor to understand the relationships between plants, water, soil, and all other aspects of cranberry cultivation. Using this information, acts to establish new cranberry plantings as quickly as possible.  Also works with ICM scout in diagnosing potential insect and disease problems on both new and mature cranberry beds. Ensures proper execution of these actions to achieve the desired results – bringing new plantings to full establishment within five growing seasons, and maximizing yields on mature beds at the lowest cost per barrel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist ICM supervisor in growing new plantings to full mature production. Includes, but not limited to: fertilizer and chemical application, irrigation, scouting. Communicates updates to supervisor daily
  • Assist ICM supervisor with planting – planning, recordkeeping, helping run crew, communicating with vendors
  • Work with ICM scout to scout for pests, disease, and nutritional problems in both new and mature beds
  • Responsible for new planting ground application recordkeeping and inventory
  • Oversee new planting bed repairs and maintenance
  • Research and identify new technology and methods for issues such as bed construction, water management, and ground applications; create proposals detailing how it will help the company grow quality fruit at lowest cost
  • Continue cranberry education and training
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education in horticulture or agronomy
  • Farm experience or some equivalent
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Basic computer and math skills
  • Willingness to work farm hours
