Southeast Post-Harvest Specialist/Process Improvement Position – Florida

Strong, established and growing produce company is seeking a Post-Harvest Specialist that is strong in process improvement, quality, and analysis to join their team.

RESPONSILITIES

  • The individual should demonstrate effective experience in postharvest and food safety to improve handling, preparation, and storage of produce
  • Plan, implement and lead research trials at postharvest to define what are the main factors (such as crop growth stage, harvest time, temperature at transportation, and storage conditions) that contributes to bad product quality and reduced shelf life of crops.
  • Establish the effect of ambient conditions during transportation and storage in the quality of crops.
  • Search and read literature related to the goal of each experiment established.
  • Prioritize and organize tasks at field (harvest) and bagging (packing house) in order to achieve trial goals.
  • Schedule plant sampling and data collection, analyze data, and write reports.
  • Support assistance for online searching of literature, equipment, sample analysis and other related duties for the growing team.
  • Assist the research team in other trials for collecting samples, applying treatments, and collecting results.
  • Collaborate for the online purchasing of materials and equipment for the establishment of trials.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in Post-harvest produce experience preferred
  • Strong process and analytical skill sets
  • Motivated and Proactive
  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – B.Sc. in agriculture or related area with 2-3 years of experience in agriculture.
  • COMMUNICATION SKILL LEVEL – Must be able to read and write effectively as to prepare written reports and email correspondence.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS – Should be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software.
  • CERTIFICATIONS and/or LICENSES REQUIRED – Must have a valid driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED – Knowledge of agricultural tools and laboratory equipment.

 Compensation:

 Competitive base salary and benefits depending on experience
