A well-established fresh cut processor is looking for a QA Manager to join their team. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and on a dotted line to the Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance. The incumbent in this role is responsible for managing the Quality Systems and Food Safety programs for the facility and ensures adherence to safe food practices and full compliance with all applicable regulations and customer requirements. Additionally, this role would be a significant technical resource to the Production and Sanitation Team regarding effective sanitation. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setting QA compliance objectives and ensuring that targets are achieved
  • Maintaining awareness of the business context and company profitability, including budgetary control issues
  • Assessing the product specifications of the company and its suppliers, and comparing with customer requirements
  • Ensuring compliance with national and international standards and legislation (FDA)
  • Considering the application of environmental and health and safety standards
  • Agreeing to standards and establishing clearly defined quality methods for staff to apply
  • Defining quality procedures in conjunction with operating staff
  • Setting up and maintaining controls and documentation procedures
  • Identifying relevant quality-related training needs
  • Gathering and analyzing performance data against defined parameters
  • Ensuring tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out, and evaluated for success
  • Supervising technical staff in carrying out tests and checks
  • Writing technical and management systems reports
  • Bringing together staff of different disciplines and driving the group to plan, formulate and implement comprehensive quality procedures
  • Persuading reluctant staff to change their way of working to incorporate quality methods
  • Communicate with customers’ auditors and ensuring the execution of corrective action and compliance with customers’ specifications.
  • Establishing standards of service for customers or clients
  • Lead integration of the current quality assurance and food safety processes to form a comprehensive food safety and quality program (SQF). These processes include HACCP, regulatory audits, standard operating procedures (SOP’s), incoming ingredient inspections, product scoring, food safety audits, field complaints, and standardized work instructions.

 Skills and Qualifications: 

  • BS in Food Science, Agriculture, or a science related discipline; Advanced degree, preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of food industry experience
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Able to work independently as a self-starter
  • Able to communicate effectively to management and cross functional areas
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to get along with other employees
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Must be willing to maintain a flexible work schedule, including nights and/or weekends
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Comprehensive experience in developing HACCP programs, SQF, GFSI, and GMP systems and food safety strategy (HACCP Certified)
  • Understanding of sanitation and pest control plans and systems
  • Strong organizational/communication/presentation skills
