Sanitation Manager – California

This position provides leadership to, and will work directly with Production, QA and Food Safety, and Warehouse managers to establish and implement Sanitation systems to improve and maintain food safety, sanitation- MSS compliance and improvement, calibration of sanitation equipment hygienic design of equipment and pest management programs for the production facility. This position will also work with 3rd party sanitation/chemical and pest control vendors to ensure they are meeting contractual service agreements and plan/maintain the sanitation budget.
Duties and responsibilities
Work with plant sanitation associates to ensure that all records are completed and are being reviewed and signed off (i.e.- chemical concentrations, CIP validations, pre-operational inspection, COP records, SSOP’s, etc.) Provide leadership and guidance with regards to the development and maintenance of a Master Sanitation Program and SQF Certification.
Guide and collaborate with other support resources (i.e. Engineering, etc) regarding sanitary and hygienic design of equipment and plant infrastructure.
Support projects (new lines, equipment, etc) by providing subject matter expert guidance as needed and through participation in the Food Safety and Quality Risk Assessment Program.
Provide leadership and guidance (proactively and reactively) to Operations in relation to internal, second party and third party audits and regulatory inspections.
Supports plant sanitation and third party vendor sanitation crew in the effective use of chemicals, COP, ACS and CIP cleaning processes, Environmental sanitation and sanitary design.
Guide facility during special plant sanitation issues including microbiological and environmental control.
Works with 3rd party vendors and others to maximize technical expertise, optimize vendor products, information, equipment, research new cleaning technologies and techniques and coordinate trials. Reviews contracts and recommends contract changes.
Assist in new plant/line/equipment startup activities that will include supporting the development and review of SSOPs and cleaning verification documents and equipment passivation of new equipment.
Responsible for training and education of plant sanitation leaders, team associates & contractors.
Conduct routine sanitation and pest control assessments against the consistent application and execution of procedures and all related practices.
B.S in Food Science, Food Safety, Biology, Chemistry or related field required.
Minimum of 5-years Food Safety/Sanitation experience in food industry preferably dairy.
Experience with FDA regulated facilities.
Excellent knowledge of food manufacturing processes.
Excellent understanding of food safety, sanitary design, sanitation and pest management in food processing.
Experience with using statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals.
Experience with regulatory, third party, and customer audits.
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), and excellent report writing skill.
Must demonstrate proven critical thinking, people and team development skills, strategic aptitude, and independent leadership.
Prefer experience with TPM, Lean and continuous improvement (including 5-S) manufacturing environments.
Experience with Permit Required Confined space regulations and LOTO, machine guarding and environmental standards.
Exposed to plant noises and vibrations * Temperature changes from hot to cold to freezing depending on work area.
Incumbent must have the ability to effectively perform all of the following physical demands without assistance: * Sitting for up to 8 hours a day * Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally (up to 40 pounds infrequently). * Walking on various production facility surfaces * Climbing up ladders and stairs * Investigate cramped production floor environments.
