Northwest Senior Agronomist – Pacific Northwest

Duties & Responsibilities:

Ÿ  Direct all activities relating to variety production as it pertains to agronomic needs.

Ÿ  Evaluate all seed related to the variety program during the course of growing and storage. Provide technical assistance to ensure the seed supply is maintained for the variety program.

Ÿ  Contribute to the annual planning and projections related to acreage, variety and growing costing.

Ÿ  Direct and manage field staff and be responsible for an annual operating budget

Ÿ  Implement/maintain agronomic data collection

Ÿ  Provide reporting of data on all agronomic functions and conduct data mining to improve agronomic practices.

Ÿ  Work with industry researchers to set up trials for improved production and quality.

Ÿ  Assist in reaching business plan objectives through attaining target yields and packout percentages

Ÿ  Work with packing managers to ensure proper product packing and product quality

Ÿ  Identify and act upon key new inputs that increase quality, packout and yield of finished product.

Ÿ  Assist in determining proper growing areas and field selection

Ÿ  Work with all grower or other business entities as needed.

Qualifications:

Ÿ  B.S. degree in Agriculture, Plant Science emphasis preferred.

Ÿ  Minimum of 10 years’ experience in produce production (experience preferred) with 7 years of work in Agronomy.

Ÿ  Excellent people skills with the ability to manage conflict constructively and effectively.  Able to effectively communicate with many growers with varying size farms

Ÿ  Able to think strategically and long-term, assisting on business decisions for long-term production, variety selection and variety development

Ÿ  Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ÿ  Critical thinker and problem solver

Ÿ  Ability to support two organizations, where at times may have slightly different goals and objectives

Ÿ  Ability to manage resources and relationships throughout multiple growing regions

Ÿ  Willingness to travel both nationally and internationally.
