Director of Procurement – Southeast

An established and reputable Produce Distributor in the Southeast is looking for a Director of Procurement to join their team. The right individual will have strong analytical skills and solid background in produce procurement in the retail industry. This role will have overall responsibility for the operational performance of the company’s product sourcing and procurement. Success will be measured through achieving targeted company and management initiatives, and meeting operational and financial benchmarks.
Position Responsibilities Include
Passion for Freshness
Thorough knowledge of all commodities both international and domestic
Experience in produce buying and negotiations
Well recognized within the industry
Ability to plan procurement strategy and direct results
Has produce logistic understanding
Understand retail competitive pressure
Knowledge of retail produce department
Ability to create promotional opportunities
Ability to plan and write produce ads for several different market areas.
Bachelor’s degree preferred with 10+years professional experience within a successful mid-to-large size organization, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of produce products, suppliers, retailers, vendors, market pricing factors, and quality indicators
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of produce industry to forecasting of product prices and seasonal availability
History of achieving and exceeding sales forecasts
Advanced understanding of how to lead and develop teams by building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
Excellent communication and relationship building skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
Proficiency in MS Office products, with emphasis in Excel
